Go for

Couples or small groups who want a private rooftop plunge pool and are happy to book a Master Suite.

Not for you if

You want a big rooftop deck to swim in on a day pass, or a pool with sea views.

Hive Cancun, on Av Huayacán in Supermanzana 336, puts its rooftop pool on the private terrace of its Master Suites. The minipool belongs to the suite, so only the suite's guests swim in it. The hotel gives no pool size, and the view is open city.

The good

  • Private rooftop terrace with its own minipool
  • Open city views from the suite roof
  • Day pass sold at MX$700
  • 4-star hotel, rated 3.9 on Google

What we think

If you want a rooftop pool with nobody else in it, this is the one on our list that offers it. Mondrian Cancun, Hyatt Zilara and Temptation all have shared adults-only rooftop pools. Hive Cancun gives a private minipool and terrace to one suite, with open views over the city. The catch is access. The minipool is in select Master Suites only, and the hotel doesn't give its size, depth or temperature. A day pass costs MX$700 and covers the facilities, but the hotel doesn't say it includes the suite rooftop. For a shared rooftop pool with a pass, Royalton Chic has one on level 18, with passes from USD $120 per person.

Insider tips
  • Ask the hotel which Master Suite types have the rooftop minipool before you book: it is the Two Beds and King suites.
  • If you only want a day by a pool, check what the MX$700 pass covers before you pay.

How to get in

The minipool is for guests of the Master Suites that have the private rooftop. Book one of those suites on the hotel's own site, hivecancun.com.

Non-guests can buy a day pass for MX$700 from the hotel. It gives access to the facilities and premium services, with no overnight stay. The hotel doesn't publish age rules.

Quick answers

  • The pool is on the suite's private terrace, so there is no shared rooftop deck.
  • The hotel doesn't publish shade, parking or pool hours. Ask when you book.
  • Midday heat in Cancun is strong, so a morning or evening swim is easier on a roof with open views.
  • You can call the hotel on +52 998 980 1446.
